The Embrace
This old river gum at Alcoota Station was part of my childhood. We climbed its branches, played beneath its canopy and sought refuge in its shade. Returning to it many years later, I realized it was more than a childhood tree — its great spreading limbs seemed to reach out in an embrace, welcoming me home to a landscape that will always be part of me.
